Coquin Migale: ‘Plans’ Single Review (Reviewed 28/05/2017)

Band/Artist: Coquin Migale

Album/Single Name: Plans

Over the past year, Newcastle quartet Coquin Migale have been super busy.

Just last August, the band were playing Reading and Leeds on the BBC Introducing stage, while in February, they recorded a Maida Vale session which was played by Huw Stephens on BBC Radio 1. Clearly a band that’s going from strength to strength, their newest single ‘Plans’ is everything that could be expected from them and more.

First premiered on BBC Radio 1 back in March, ‘Plans’ has been an instant hit, already being listened to by thousands on Spotify alone. With the track brilliantly showcasing all of the band's collective talent, it’s no wonder why Coquin Migale are proving to be so successful.

The pure intensity and ambition of the track creates an almost dire need to press repeat, with the hard-hitting lyrics really producing a feeling that can only be described as sublime. The slightly echoed vocals add a dreamy vibe to the track, which, contrasted with heavy drum beats and guitar riffs, proves to be nothing but monumental. It’s easy to imagine the lyrics: ‘I’ve been down for quite some time’ in an arena -somewhere where ‘Plans’ wouldn’t sound out of place in the slightest.

Not only does ‘Plans’ mark the beginning of a new chapter for the band, but, as one of their most exciting projects to date, it sparks the question: what’s next for Coquin Migale?
