August sees a variety of visual arts events happening on the Teesside arts scene – and if you’re an art buff, you’re certain to find something you’ll love.
The Cleveland Art Society stages its summer exhibition at its most southern outpost in the middle of August as it heads to Stokesley Town Hall; there will be original paintings and drawings on show as well as prints and cards. The exhibition launches on Friday 10th August between 19:00 and 21:00 and the show finishes on the afternoon of 25th. Please note: the exhibition will be closed on August 12th, 16th, 19th and 23rd and the mornings of the 15th and the 22nd.
At Gallery TS1 in central Middlesbrough, textile artist Hellen Edwards lands for a 6-week solo show, beginning on Friday 3rd August and ending on Tuesday 11th September. Her work is becoming increasingly sought-after and you can speak to the artist on the launch night between 17:00 and 19:00. If you’ve not yet visited this quaint little arts and crafts gallery, here is your opportunity. It stocks hand-crafted jewellery, wood, fabric and glass-craft, paintings, photography, metal sculpture, prints and cards.
Meanwhile, in Redcar, Palace Arts Gallery, situated at street level in the Hub building on the seafront, will be running their summer show, featuring another mixed display of local art talent. Like Gallery TS1, there’s always a diverse collection of unique products available at Palace Arts Gallery from jewellery, glass art and paintings to photography.
