The Ouseburn Valley is the creative heart of Newcastle and its bustling cultural venues, alternative music scene, flourishing creative networks and abundant local history and heritage make it an exciting place to live, work or play.
In celebration of the Great Exhibition of the North, the artists and makers from this thriving community are opening their doors to the public.
The summer Ouseburn Open Studios event will take place on 30th June/1st July and will see seven venues across the Ouseburn valley welcoming visitors from the region and beyond.
This is a unique chance to come and glimpse into the working world of over 200 artists and designer-makers, who offer a huge variety of affordable and original work to buy, from paintings, ceramics, sculpture, jewellery, furniture, prints and much more to suit everyone’s taste.

Visitors can check out a range of arts and crafts and chat to artists, enjoy live music, demonstrations, workshops and homemade food.
Taking part in this Great Exhibition of the North ‘Inspired By’ event are 36 Lime Street, The Biscuit Factory, Jim Edwards, Mushroom Works, Studio Gallery, Northern Print, Kiln and The Biscuit Tin. The Mushroom Works will be exhibiting new paintings by artists Joanne Wishart, Amanda Rabey, Bethan Laker and Low Moon over High Town in the gallery as well as unveiling exciting new products by all of their Great North East Creatives. Nearby at Northern Print you can have a go at printmaking, see demonstrations and find out all about their programme of classes.
In 36 Lime Street, you will be able to chat to the artists, commission new work or view the ‘Process36’ gallery exhibition. In addition, there will be live music every thirty minutes from pianist and composer, Steve Luck.
All in all, it’s a fantastic family-friendly and fun day out.
