The world-famous, multi-million making dance show Stomp is hitting (or stomping) the Theatre Royal in Newcastle between Thursday 16th and Saturday 18th August.
This is going to be tough to talk about. There isn’t much to say that hasn’t already been said about a show that is so world-renowned and famous that it is not only a bucket-list-worthy destination for theatre fans worldwide, but it also a brand that is familiar with anyone with two eyes.
For those who have been living under a rock, Stomp is a creative take on the dance genre as a team of dancers make live music in front of you using industrial items such as bins, brushes, traffic cones and other mundane objects that you would see on any given day. In short: Stomp takes the objects from our normal lives and makes them magical for a night.
In the interest of fairness, I would say that other object-based percussive dances shows are available, but that’s the thing – I can’t. I honestly can’t say that there are any other companies known for this kind of thing. Sure, if you watch Britain’s Got Talent for about five minutes you will have some community centre kids come on and do a rendition of We Will Rock You with their mum’s sweeping brush, but I dare say you won’t get the same production value.
With a running time of around one hour and forty minutes, it’s a great excuse to go and have a nice night out in Newcastle.
Stomp performs at Theatre Royal, Newcastle on Thursday 16th August. Tickets, priced from £14.00, are available from theatreroyal.co.uk.
