Freedom City 2017 marks the 50th anniversary of Dr Martin Luther King Jr. receiving an honorary degree from Newcastle University.
Freedom City 2017 includes a citywide programme of exhibitions and events, plus Freedom on the Tyne – a dramatic event inspired by the speech made by Dr King and civil rights struggles across the globe.
On Sunday 29th October, a great drama will engulf Newcastle and Gateshead. Out of the buildings and through the streets a once in a lifetime afternoon of theatre, music, dance, circus and art will unfold, celebrating the courage and sacrifice of those who have led the long march for civil rights.
Organisers are looking for enthusiastic volunteers of all ages and abilities to play an important role in bringing Freedom on the Tyne to life. There are a wide range of roles available – from performers and marchers to musicians and event logistics. You will be part of a cast of hundreds, working alongside professional actors, dancers, singers, musicians and performers to create an unforgettable piece of storytelling.
