The phrase ‘magic of the seaside’ is about to be redefined as some of the world’s best magicians descend upon South Shields for the 15th annual South Tyneside International Magic Festival (STIMF).
The Custom’s House will play host to this four-day magical extravaganza, with shows running from Thursday 15th to Sunday 18th March. The organisers are setting up what looks to be the biggest STIMF to date – the event will include two gala shows, a family magic performance and a three-day convention that will give fans and aspiring magicians a chance to meet the professionals and learn the ‘tricks of the trade’ – pun intended.
This year’s star-studded line-up includes magicians from around the globe as well as a number of British favourites. Mark James, R Paul Wilson and James Phelan all make their return to the STIMF this year after leaving a lasting impression on audiences last year. Nephew of the late Paul Daniels, James Phelan has taken the magic world by storm over the last 12 months due to his unique show that combines old-school magic with hilarious pranks on unsuspecting members of the audience – you’ll need eyes in the back of your head for this one!
2015’s Britain’s Got Talent runner-up, Jamie Raven will also be hitting the STIMF for the first time this year. Jamie shot to fame on the ITV talent show after winning over the judges and millions of viewers at home with his breathtaking feats of magic, feats that made even the most sceptical believe, with Simon Cowell famously declaring: “I now finally believe in magic!”.
“Believe it or not, this will be the first time I’ve taken part as a performer, although I spent many years attending conventions as I was learning the trade,” Jamie said. “I’m really excited about it because it’s something a bit different. It will be a chance to try out a few of my new tricks in front of an audience, and I’m looking forward to taking part in the convention and meeting up with fellow magicians to swap some tips and ideas.”
With international dates and a solo tour on the horizon for Jamie, the STIMF will be a chance for fans to catch a glimpse of some fresh material from one of the most sought-after magicians, not only in the UK but in the world.
“I’ve got a busy year ahead, with performances in Dubai in April and then my own tour in September, so the festival will be a nice way to get ready and I’m looking forward to it,” he added. Jamie will be performing during the first gala show on Friday 16th March.
This phenomenal annual celebration of magic is always a landmark show for the region, with South Tyneside Council playing a large role in the organisation of the festival each year. Councillor Alan Kerr, Deputy Leader of South Tyneside Council, is pleased to see the event becoming one of the fastest growing in the UK magic industry’s calendar.
“To be able to attract such high-profile names as Jamie Raven proves once again that South Tyneside International Magic Festival is a very well-respected event within the magic industry and it’s wonderful to see the event growing year-on-year and going from strength to strength,” he said.
Tickets for all three public events are available now and are priced at £8.00 for the Family Magic Extravaganza on Thursday 15th March and £14.00 (£13.00 concessions) for the Friday and Saturday Gala shows.
