Promising to live up to its name as one of North East’s most diverse mini-all dayers, Saltburn House will be hosting their 10th Lost in the Woods this month.
Now in its 5th year, the events have built up a reputation in the north for being particularly individual and rather niche. Focusing primarily on electronica, psych and garage music, the events are designed to champion local, regional, national and international bands acts in these niche genres – shining a light for this particular music.
Taking place at Saltburn House in Saltburn-by-the Sea on Saturday 3rd February, Lost in the Woods #9 is a great way to kick-start the northern psyche/garage scene.
The events first came about as a result of Hartlepool/Billingham based band Silver Trees’ regular music nights that aimed to showcase local, regional and international talent, with the name coming from a song by Pink Floyd founding member, Syd Barrett.
“It is the perfect exhibit of the psychedelic music and arts scene”, said Brian Barnes, a spokesperson for Lost in the Woods. “We don’t care if the music is completely electronic, a mixture of both or 100% garage rock.
“We think this event has probably the best lineup yet. We have lots of great bands and from connections forged over gigging and sharing stages over the last five years and some of the best local and regional bands under the Lost in the Woods sonic umbrella will be on show’.
In terms of its lineup, this event brings us an eclectic yet diverse range of artists from garage DJs to North East psych/electronica/krautrock bands – the likes of which are very rarely celebrated in the region.
Featured on the lineup are electronica band, Warm Digits. Hailing from Newcastle and Manchester, the band, comprising of duo Andrew Hodgson and Steve Jefferies, recently released their new album ‘Wireless World’ in which they displayed a series of sharper sounds and buckets of melodically rich songs. This latest release saw them work closely with artists such as Peter Brewis of Field Music, Sarah Cracknell from Saint Étienne, DevonSproule and Mia la Metta of Beards.
Coming to prominence back in 2011 under independent Newcastle Label Distraction Records, the band boasted music built on such classic acquainted tones, not too dissimilar to those of bands in the 70s. Over the years, they have built quite the reputation; working on a plethora of multimedia projects and collaborations with the likes of local icons Maximo Park and the Royal Northern Sinfonica and have gained a lot of admiration and support through BBC 6 Music.
The local lads will receive support for a host of other diverse talents including the hosts Silver Trees, The Likkor Men, Primitive Painters, Behold A Pale Horse, Parastatic and Independent State Of Mind who will entertain the lost in the woods goers over the course of the day of ambient electronica and garage vibes.
Meanwhile, in the Deep Water Room, the Lost in the Woods Dj collective and the Roots Train radio selectors will be mixing up with ambient, dub, reggae and on u sounds throughout the day.
The Lost in the Woods #9 – WaveForm will take place on Saturday 3rd February from 3.00pm at Saltburn House located in Saltburn-by-the-Sea. Tickets, priced at £7.00 in advance, are available to purchase now at wegottickets.com and direct from the venue.
