As part of her extensive 2017 UK tour of her most recent album ‘Lose Control’, guitar prodigy and vocalist Chantel McGregor is set to bring her unique blend of blues and rock to The Cluny on Saturday 2nd September.
Despite being told by a major label that she had ‘a great voice, but girls don’t play guitar like this’, Chantel didn’t give up her aspiration and enrolled at Leeds College of Music where she became the first student in the college’s history to achieve a 100% pass mark at BTEC. She then proceeded to further education and graduated with a First Class Honours degree in popular music.
In 2015, after years of touring and many festival appearances, the incredibly talented musician burst back onto the music scene and released her second album, ‘Lose Control’ on her independent boutique label, Tis Rock Music.
The highly-anticipated album follows her 2011 debut album, ‘Like No Other’ and features ten new songs showcasing her transition from conventional blues to a more explosive and bold rock sound.
Strongly influenced by her interest in the dark side of Southern Gothic literature, media and artwork, McGregor was determined ‘to create an album that reflected the imagery and themes of that genre’ and was inspired by TV shows True Detective and True Blood as well as the literary works of Tennessee Williams and Carson Mullers.
The album sees Chantel present her guitar playing and songwriting in a fantastic fusion of rock crescendos and riffs that will leave her devout blues rock fan-base in awe while leading them into a new, unexplored music territory.
Tickets, priced at £12.00 in advance, are available at thecluny.com.
