Davefest started like all the great ideas in history started – after a few beers.
A group of housemates in Heaton decided to throw a day-long music festival in their own house, comprised of local bands within the Newcastle area, along with a coalescence sound system to provide high-tempo tunes throughout the night to the early hours of the morning.
A member of this house, Dave, mentioned it was his birthday coming up soon and that would make for a good party – and thus, Davefest was born.
The first Davefest aimed to raise funds to help the refugee crisis over in Calais and from then on, The People’s Kitchen, a local Newcastle-based charity aiming to tackle the homelessness problem, became the recipient of the good-willed nature of Davefest.
After Davefest was no longer able to operate within Heaton, due to the clashing combination of excessive noise and grumpy residents, they relocated to town. The venue for Davefest’s #4 and #5 was Kommunity before moving to the new venue, Bar Loco for Davefest #6.
This Saturday, Davefest #7, the curators biggest yet, will be returning to Bar Loco. This time they will be raising funds for both The People’s Kitchen and The Brain Tumour Charity.
The event will run from 2:00pm until 2:00am and is family-friendly and free entry (run on a pay as you feel policy!
So please head down and donate, drink and dance to your heart’s content.
