Hackney-based outfit Gengahr are set to bring their effortlessly smooth and melodic indie-rock to the North East this month as they mark their return to the stage at Newcastle’s Think Tank? following the release of their latest studio album, ‘Where Wildness Grows’.
Formed in London back in 2013, the indie quarter has now released two full-length albums, with their debut ‘A Dream Outside’ hitting shelves in June of 2015. Their championed sound, often compared to that of Modest Mouse and Alt-J, is an intriguing assertion of grove-driven indie-rock littered with melodic guitar and atmospheric vocals.
After their first single ‘Fill My Gums With Blood’ was aired by BBC Radio 1 DJ Huw Stephens, Gengahr was invited to play the prestigious BBC Introducing stage at the Glastonbury Festival in 2014 and ever since their popularity has continued to rise prosperously.
I would strongly recommend viewing Gengahr’s latest videos for tracks such as ‘Carrion’ and ‘Mallory’ as not only are they incredible works of art, but they present an aesthetic almost synonymous to the music itself, epitomising the often neglected relationship between raw art and music.
Tickets are now on sale for Gengahr’s show at Think Tank?, Newcastle on Saturday 21st April 2018. Tickets, priced at £14.30 (including booking fee), can be purchased online at https://www.gigsnortheast.co.uk. This event is for over 14s only.
