Middlesbrough’s Westgarth Social Club is set to feature the raucous Roughneck Riot along with Tim Loud and Manaking as supporting acts in what’s set to be a high-octane affair.
By no means a traditional folk-punk band, Roughneck Riot have been making their mark on the underground punk scene for nearly a decade with their heavy, melodic sound. Drawing influence from a menagerie of folk, punk and hardcore bands and praised for their highly-energetic live performances, they’re intent on highlighting socio-political issues of the 21st century to a new generation of punks.
Against Me!, Dick Gaughan, NOFX, and The Levellers are all influences on the band, and an element of Bad Religion can be heard within the glorious cacophony of sounds that this UK folk-punk band punches you in the face with.
These sounds of rebellion have been successfully compacted into two albums too, the first being ‘This is Our Day’ and the second ‘Out of Anger’, both of which are filled to the brim with punk attitude.
The last album is especially well crafted if looking through the lens of artistic and music expression. Track ‘Parasites’ features a fast-paced melody and an equally fast accompanying folk guitar sound that makes one believe, as the title may hint at, that there are a swarm of parasites near your ear. The band’s element of punk can be found in titles ‘Resistance’, ‘Never Silenced, Never Stopped’ and ‘Each Man’s Hell’ – the last of which screams rebelliousness and anarchistic thoughts whilst having an amazing folk melody playing throughout. The music produced by this band is utterly unique, and to hear their sounds live would be a chance best not missed.
The first of the supporting acts is Tim Loud from Leeds. Tim is a real character with range and depth in his vocals, a passionate and varied playing style, and the ability to tackle an array of genres and influences in his music.
Manaking is the second of the supporting acts, and he’s a fascinating son of the rock and rap crossover. He has a debut EP entitled ‘My Name is Bedroom 7’ which features four eclectic songs that crossover a range of genres.
And finally, spoken word/poetry/acoustic act Cherry B & Peesh make up the full line-up.
Roughneck Riot plus support will play at the Westgarth Social Club, Middlesbrough on Sunday 14th October. Tickets, priced at £8.80 in advance, can be purchased online at seetickets.com.
Doors open at 17:00 and show is expected to start at 17:30.
