On Friday 4th August, the Alphabetti Theatre will be holding a fundraiser in hope of raising funds that will go towards renovating their brand new venue on St James Boulevard. The original theatre was opened by Ali Pritchard with the aim of helping to create, produce and program new work from emerging artists across the performing arts and comedy scenes that could be enjoyed by all audiences.
In early 2013, Ali decided to open his own venue. On a small budget, he transformed a derelict room above The Dog & Parrot pub into Newcastle’s first multi-purpose fringe performance space. Ali ran this space for 18 months – creating over 3,000 opportunities for emerging artists and receiving two grants for the arts from Arts Council England to aid their work. Whilst looking for a new venue, Ali also put on four sold-out events at Live Theatre’s studio at The Stand comedy club.
As quoted by Gigglebeats, they noted: “On all levels, Alphabetti is a very welcome addition to Newcastle’s culture scene, and it deserves our support and applause.”
As part of the fundraiser, Northumbrian band, Dansi, will be performing as well as some surprise guests. The band have performed at various BBC stages and Live Radio sessions, have had countless headline festival slots and have toured extensively. They released their latest EP on Wednesday 19th April. The EP was designed to be played live, therefore it is anticipated to be a huge hit with the audience at the fundraiser.
The show will begin at 7:30 pm with the bar opening at 6:00 pm. Tickets are priced at £10.00 and are available from alphabettitheatre.co.uk.
