Fast Forward Promotions bring Spear of Destiny to The Georgian Theatre in Stockton on Friday 18th May.
The band is touring to promote their 14thalbum, ‘Tontine’, which has just been released and is getting rave reviews across the music press.
Formed in 1983 by Kirk Brandon and Stan Stammers from the remnants of post-punk legends Theatre of Hate, they released the classic ‘Grapes of Wrath’ debut. The follow-up albums ‘One Eyed Jacks’ and ‘World Service’ propelled the band into the mainstream, playing alongside the likes of U2 and Simple Minds and establishing a reputation on the live circuit with standout tracks like ‘Mickey’, ‘All My Love’and the frenzied, ‘Liberator’.
Stammers departed in 1986 and over the years the line-up has fluctuated; Brandon has remained the constant whilst guitarist Adrian Portas and bassist Craig Adams have been mainstays of the band for many years.
In March 2011, they played their first show at the Georgian Theatre, but it never nearly happened. Kirk was so ill at one point it looked like the sell-out show would have to be cancelled but the gig went ahead and Kirk was subsequently admitted to hospital where he spent several months.
Spear of Destiny has played Stockton several times over recent years and has developed a strong bond with the area. Shows are raucous affairs with the band giving their all whether it’s playing songs from the back catalogue or newer material – everyone goes home happy.
Kirk Brandon will also be making an instore appearance at Sound It Records prior to the show, with a 6:00pm start.
Spear of Destiny plays The Georgian Theatre, Stockton on Friday 18th May. Tickets, priced at £15.00 (+booking fee) in advance, are available from georgiantheatre.co.uk and usual online outlets.
