Go on, admit it: you actually quite like Status Quo. You know all the words to ‘Rockin’ All Over the World’ and you’ve liked ‘Whatever You Want’ since it was used in an advert campaign for Argos.
It’s fine; you’re among friends. I, myself, have seen the Mighty Quo more than 10 times and you always leave with a smile on your face. OK, it’s not quite the same now that blonde rock ‘n’ roll icon Rick Parfitt is no longer with us, but Francis Rossi and the rest of the boys are still rockin’ and Richie Malone is a worthy replacement – he has Rick’s guitar parts down to a tee.
” You’ll like it, you’ll like it, you’ll la la like it”
For those of you who don’t know – where have you been? – Quo formed in the late 60s and had their first big hit with ‘Pictures of Matchstick Men’. Ditching their Carnaby Street chic stage clothes for their everyday jeans and t-shirts, Quo parted ways with their original keyboard player, slimming down to a four-piece and creating the hard-rockin’ boogie sound that became their trademark. The British public loved it – oh, yes they did – a steady stream of number 1 albums flowed for Quo through the 1970s, as they became one of the biggest bands in the country.
If you’ve never seen the Quo before, don’t let your naysaying friends put you off – these guys are a British rock institution and have some absolute bangers up their collective sleeve.
In other words, you’ll like it, you’ll like it, you’ll la la like it.
Status Quo plays Middlesbrough Town Hall on Saturday 21st July. Tickets, priced from £40.00, are available from Middlesbroughtownhall.co.uk (at the time of writing).
