Think of stand-out 2-Tone bands from across the years and The Selecter and The Beat probably come to mind. The two iconic bands are on a co-headlining tour of the UK and are stopping off at Newcastle’s 02 Academy on Saturday 18th November to bring their sensational Ska sound back to the North East.
Both bands have been busy in the recording studio producing new albums with tracks that are consistent with their hits from across the years. The Selecter, with a new studio album released on 6th October 2017 titled ‘Daylight’, features their latest single, ‘Frontline’, which has already made it onto the BBC Radio 6 music playlist – a sure sign of the quality of the album. The Beat also released their fourth studio album, ‘Bounce’, on 30th September this year featuring Ranking Roger.
This is a partnership between bands, and close friends, that is set to do great things once again. This isn’t the first time they’ve played together. As recently as last December, both bands played live from Maida Vale for Steve Lamacq’s Christmas Ska Party on BBC Radio 6 -a special venue for two special bands.
Their presence in 2-Tone music is as important today as it ever was. In the current political climate, it seems appropriate that the two bands, just like they did 30 years ago, are out there among their fans, delivering their iconic sound.
With over 30 shows on this tour including visits to New Zealand, Australia and Scandinavia both bands are back and ready to go.
The Selecter and The Beat play Newcastle’s 02 Academy on Saturday 18th November. Tickets, priced at £28.65 in advance, are available now from seetickets.com.
