Walk Off the Earth – a Platinum-selling and Juno Award-winning Canadian five-piece band – have announced their European appearances as part of their 2018 worldwide tour and will be heading to Sage One in Gateshead on Tuesday 1st May, marking their first shows in the UK since 2016.
The band is objectively described as an “unconventional, multi-talented five-piece musical phenomena.” Such a description is true: their cover of Gotye’s ‘Somebody That I Used to Know’ -whereby all five members played on a single guitar – exploded and resonated through online video sharing platform YouTube, gaining a staggering 35 million views in just shy of 2 weeks.
Another way that the band’s alternative and isolated uniqueness reverberates can be seen in their cover of Outkast’s ‘Hey Ya!’ Common instruments such as guitars, violins, ukuleles and synthesisers appear alongside ‘post-modern’ contraptions, such as an oversized guitar, ‘happy socks’ and seemingly converted joysticks tweaked and tuned to musical notes.
The band’s most recent single entitled ‘Nomad’ is a buoyant and provocative love song that incorporates their wide-ranging style of instruments and vocals – the main attraction for their audience and fans ever since their emergence. This follows the releases of their other highly-successful singles such as ‘Fire In My Soul’ and ‘Taekwondo’ of which the latter has been released as both an EP and as a short film.
With 2.9 million subscribers on their official YouTube channel, I’m certain that their presence at Sage One on Tuesday1st May will garner a huge populous.
Tickets, priced from £21.30, are available from sagegateshead.com and there are also VIP and VIP Deluxe options available including a sound check experience and meet and greet sessions. Doors open at 7:30pm.
