Sunderland-based three-piece rock band, Beautiful Madheads, made up of members Gav Holden, Jordan Tindale and Tom Mannion, has been hard at work to release their debut EP, ‘Make Music Great Again’.
Recorded at Bakerland Studios in Sunderland and mixed by Twin Bass Productions, their first single ‘Age of Offence’ was released in February as a taster for their launch gig last March at Legacy Rock Bar in Sunderland.
Upon first listen, their music feels reminiscent of the punk-rock era with a fast-paced beat, hard-edged melodies and a clear reference to politics. As a fan of 70s and 80s rock bands, like The Clash and The Damned, I appreciate music with a very raw, grungy sound to it; I was pleased to hear a modern take on this.
Their track ‘Age of Offence’ starts with a punchy drumbeat before leading into the complex but catchy rhythm of the guitar. Their lyrics, “get out of my mind” and “we’re living in the age of outrage”, seem angst-filled and introspective, whilst addressing themes about social confinement and a desire for freedom. The vocals carry mellow anger and frustration too, making the track intense and refreshing.
Beautiful Madheads’ EP oozes energy and the spirit of youthful rebellion. In short, the music is distinct and edgy with a complex but catchy rhythm.
Their new EP is available on Soundcloud and YouTube. And to keep up-to-date with the band, including finding out about upcoming gigs and further releases, head to facebook.com/BeautifulMadheads.
