Newcastle-based outfit, Mosaic Sun, has recently unleashed their new single ‘Blood Red Lips’ for the world to get their ear-holes around and I have to admit – it’s great. The track is a welcoming combination of groove and alternative rock that I feel lies among bands such as The 1975 and The Pales Waves.
A fresh guitar sound cuts through the single like a hot knife through butter, creating that jangly sound so many bands out there strive to achieve and not many master, and it’s great to hear it in a track created by some talented musicians from the North East.
The song opens up with the lyrics: “Like an old friend, you know me well”, and after only a couple of listens, I feel like this is a track you would know really well too.
The single appears to tell the story of encountering an old lover and reminiscing about the memories that seeing them again brings up – we’ve all been there, am I right? But don’t take my word for it as that’s just my interpretation; check the track out yourself and see what you think. I think it’s for the band to truly know what it’s all about. The track is a great sign that the North East music scene really is an exciting place to be among now.
You can find ‘Blood Red Lips’ across various digital platforms including YouTube, Spotify and iTunes. There is no sunset in sight for this talented bunch of musicians who seem to be going from strength to strength with everything they release.
