Newcastle three-piece alternative rock band, The Clarions, have just released their latest single – and it’s a track that creates a sound that has been bursting to get out.
Recently, I’ve been listening to a wide range of female-led vocal bands like Wolf Alice and First Aid Kit, and if you’re a sucker for the like then look no further than The Clarions. Their first single ‘Like We Do’ was released at the beginning of September as a ‘teaser’ for lead track, ‘Something Different’.
Without sounding too uncanny, ‘Something Different’ is certainly something different. If you’ve ever thought that there was a lack of female talent and musicians in the North East well direct yourselves to this band. The single has a vast number of kick-back rock elements with the roar of the guitars and thunder of the drums. The vocals also struck me straight away as lead singer, Claire Delamore, really belts out the intoxicating lyrics.
Released on the fledgling label, ‘Old Stick Records’, the song is about always feeling different to other people and not fitting in – but also not wanting to. As the line in the song says: ‘I fell between the lines’: fell between the lines of the usual monotony and expectations of day-to-day life.
The artwork for the single reflects this: an individual, alone from mainstream society, is placed between lines of light but is illuminated by the light and, therefore, illuminated by what makes them different.
‘Something Different’ is available to listen to now on Spotify, iTunes, Deezer, Amazon, Google Play, Rhapsody and TIDAL and can also be purchased on CD.
