Cape Cub, fronted my Saltburn-born lead singer Chad Male, have come a long way since the day I mentioned Chad was: “Shy, nervous, and seemingly overwhelmed” by a crowd containing no more than 150 people.
Now backed by a full band, Chad is in his element on stage and has become a charismatic frontman that is passionate and confident in his own skin.
Playing arena-sounding songs in the intimate Cluny in Newcastle, tracks ‘Keep Me in Mind’, ‘Moonglow’ and ‘Searchlight’ have a more rounded sound than on record, with an indie-pop-meets-dance vibe that is intoxicating – they’re life-affirming tracks that touch deeply on the heartstrings.
Named as one of my ‘Top 10 North East Artists to See Live in 2018’, I knew I wasn’t wrong when I said that I was expecting big things from them this year. Tonight, they exceeded my expectations and I’ll certainly make sure that I see them live in 2019, as you should too.
