Here's one for all of you rum lovers out there. The award-winning Voodoo Cafe in Darlington will be hosting a full day rum festival on Saturday 17th June.
'The Darlington Rum Experience' is a free admission event with the option to buy a ticket for £20.00, which will give you access to six different rums that you can drink on the day from the estimated 100 available options. The range of rums will be showcased by a number of promoters from various iconic rum companies, most of whom will be at the event to talk to drinkers about each of the beverages on offer. And there’s certain to be something for all tastes, with companies such as Pussers, Diplomatico and St Abbs all showcasing their range of drinks for the day.
During the course of the day, the main focus will be on Caribbean rum with famous companies from the industry giving tasters and seminars. Rum promoters will also be mixing cocktails, as well as showcasing reclusive rums such as Rhum Agricole from Martinique (a rare, earthy tasting rum made from tropical sugar canes) that are usually hard to get hold of.
There will also be Caribbean food on offer and hula dancers on the street to keep everyone entertained throughout the course of the day.
If the event is a success, Voodoo Cafe owner Les Fry noted there will be: “plans to host another festival around September and maybe even later in the year”.
In terms of the Voodoo Cafe itself, the Mexican restaurant was listed in the World’s Best Bars as 'The Best Latin Restaurant Outside of London'. The building also doubles up as a music venue, providing a stage for upcoming bands and of cause offering a selection of imported drinks.
