Two groups which feature regularly in NE Volume are Gallery TS1, a co-operative of approximately 18 fine artists and crafters who operate from a Middlesbrough town centre gallery (an outlet for the magazine), and the Cleveland Art Society who meet weekly at Macmillan Academy – and both will be involved in shows of paintings, drawing, prints and craft over the spring period/early summer.
Gallery TS1 will be displaying spring-related artwork over the coming months, most of which are unique hand-crafted pieces and includes jewellery, small-medium metal sculpture, glass art, woodcraft and photography. Their window display on Corporation Road, almost opposite The Empire in Middlesbrough, will reflect the range of work available from the various skilled artists who make up the group.
The Cleveland Art Society, in comparison, hasn’t got a fixed venue but can be caught occasionally showing work in one of Teesside’s main art exhibition spaces. During May and June, they will be showcasing their work at a new local venue called the Barn Owl Café at Seaton Hall on the outskirts of Staithes. Technically not part of the Teesside arts scene as such, those who live in the southern part of our region might like to check this place out and maybe even consider it as a future location for live music. The Art Society will have mixed paintings and drawings on view – conventional and contemporary – adding to the atmosphere of this East Cleveland farmstead.
