Albert Park in Middlesbrough is soon to host the annual Middlesbrough Mela, an event designed to bring communities together to celebrate and promote the diverse cultures within the region.
The festival, which will be held on Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th August, will offer an eclectic selection of world-class music, covering a rich mix of hip-hop, Bhangra (a type of upbeat Indian pop music associated with the Punjab region) and traditional Asian sounds.
There will also be a global arts village, food court, bazaar, street theatre and entertainment suitable for all the family.
There is a unique opportunity for artists to get involved with two projects too. One of these opportunities is for a sensory artwork commission, where artists will be briefed to make a sculptural piece that will incorporate an audio recording exploring contrasting cultural journeys. The art commission can be in any form and encourages members of the public to engage and get involved with the event and cultural celebration.
The second proposition is for a Wishing Tree commission, where members of the public can share their dreams and aspirations on a paper leaf which will be added to the tree sculpture. The Wishing Tree will be showcased at the Mela and then toured around events and festivals across the Tees Valley.
Furthermore, the event is calling for stall-holders and sponsors to get involved.
