If you thought Kynren – An Epic Tale of England was impressive, then Kynren – The Storied Lands is set to take the experience to an entirely new level. I was invited along to a preview day to explore the first five attractions of this ambitious daytime adventure, and it is already shaping up to be the perfect companion to the spectacular evening show.
Our journey began with The Trusty Steed, a heartwarming tale of courage, unlikely friendship and hope. Beautiful horses, brilliant performances and breathtaking equestrian skills provided a thrilling opening. The horse acrobatics, fearless stunt riding and exhilarating jousting were genuinely impressive, immediately setting the standard for the rest of the day.
Next came The Lost Feather, and when it is described as a spectacular bird show, that description is no exaggeration. More than 250 birds soared overhead, with some swooping so close it felt as though their feathers could brush your face. From owls and vultures to falcons, parrots and my personal favourites, the African crowned cranes, there was always something incredible to watch.
The Victorian Imaginarium felt like stepping straight into a bustling Victorian street. The wonderfully eccentric Professor Flambard introduced visitors to his vision of “the village of the future” before leading us into a delightful garden maze filled with colourful characters, flowers, greenery and playful surprises.

Then it was time for Land of the Vikings, where fire blazed, shields clashed and ancient rivalries were brought vividly to life. The fight scenes were spectacular and, for half an hour, transported us completely away from the modern world.
Inspired by North East folklore, Legend of the Wear brought the famous tale of the Lambton Worm to life through thrilling water stunts and impressive special effects. I had never fully known the story before, and there was something wonderful about learning local history while being thoroughly entertained.
Visitors can also experience The Time Traveller’s Feast, a delicious multi-course banquet where each course represents a different period in history. The food was excellent and, for a while, it genuinely felt as though we were dining like royalty.
The day concluded with Kynren – An Epic Tale of England, which remains every bit as spectacular as expected. Set against the backdrop of Bishop Auckland Castle, it provides an unforgettable finale to an already remarkable experience.
Kynren – The Storied Lands is far more than an addition to the evening performance; it is a fantastic attraction in its own right. A brilliant day out from start to finish.
