Since forming in early 2023, Whitley Bay’s indie-rock band Park View have swiftly made their mark with their debut EP, ‘The Pretty Sounds’. Drawing inspiration from the likes of The Strokes and Bloc Party, the band infuses their sound with a raw, live energy that resonates deeply with their North East roots.
Each track on ‘The Pretty Sounds’ serves as a snapshot of the band’s experiences growing up in the North East. Guitarist Alex shares: “Every song has influences from our own lives and shared experiences…’Lights’ is about escaping the mundane, chasing excitement in nightlife.” The EP delves into themes of anxiety, love, and resilience, offering listeners an authentic portrayal of youth in the region.
Known for their energetic live performances, Park View strives to replicate that intensity in their recordings. Alex explains: “Nothing can match the feeling of a great live performance…we’ve really tried to stand by the idea that the core of our songs should always be how it’s played live.” This commitment ensures that their studio tracks retain the vibrancy and passion of their on-stage presence.
Among the EP’s tracks, ‘Pretty Sounds’ stands out as particularly personal for Alex. He reflects,: “It came at a time where my life was changing…but with the people that mean the most to me.” The song encapsulates the bittersweet transition from adolescence to adulthood, highlighting the importance of cherished relationships during times of change.
Looking ahead, Park View are set to perform at Coast Fest in North Shields (27–29th June) and Hardwick Festival on 17th August. Alex expresses excitement, stating: “These are our biggest shows yet and we cannot be more buzzing! We’ll bring high energy, guitar-driven music to your ears and give you a taste of why we love playing our tunes live so much.”
Reflecting on their journey, the band acknowledges the challenges they’ve faced, from establishing their sound to navigating the complexities of the music industry. However, their shared passion and dedication continue to drive them forward. Looking to the future, Park View aim to expand their reach, connect with a broader audience, and continue evolving their musical style.
‘The Pretty Sounds’ EP is a testament to Park View’s commitment to authenticity and their deep connection to the North East. With their upcoming performances and future projects, the band is poised to make an even greater impact on the indie rock scene.
