Having followed Jodie’s career for some time, I have always loved her acoustic sound: her piano and acoustic guitar playing marry perfectly with her emotional, soft, soulful vocals.
Jodie has developed rapidly as an artist and songwriter and this is perhaps appropriately titled as it is a very bold ‘move’ from the safety and comfort of her acoustic foundation into a synth-based, ambient, electro-pop world. And boy has she pulled it off and then some.
‘Move’ is a coming of age release. The vocals are a departure from her usual poetic lyrics about love and the world around her into simplified lines that harness the rhythm and hypnotic tone of the song.
And yet despite the change of direction, the song is quintessentially Jodie. Her note-perfect voice is unmistakable and the song transforms your perception of her – it is a side to Jodie we have not yet seen but should all pay very close attention to.
For the hugely talented Darlington songwriter, things just went up a few gears.
