The Mouth of the Tyne Festival is set to return this summer with a cracking line-up to celebrate its 20th anniversary.
Taking place from Thursday 10th to Sunday 13th July, the historic Tynemouth Priory and Castle will host a vibrant mix of music, street performances, and family entertainment – all set against a spectacular seaside backdrop.
Kicking things off in style, Brummie legends UB40 will headline the opening night, bringing their iconic blend of reggae and pop. Known for their socially informed lyrics, laid-back rhythms, and brass hooks, expect classics like ‘Red, Red Wine’ and ‘Kingston Town’. They’ll be joined by special guests Soul II Soul, serving up smooth vibes and timeless hits like ‘Back to Life’.
Friday takes a unique twist as Ministry of Sound Classical brings an orchestral reimagining of iconic club anthems to the castle grounds. With live musicians and stunning visuals, it’s bound to evoke heaps of nostalgia while delivering an unforgettable experience.
Saturday’s headline slot belongs to Elbow, one of the UK’s most beloved indie-rock bands. The Mercury Prize-winners have built a reputation for powerful live shows, emotional anthems, and soaring melodies. They’ll be joined by North Shields’ own Hector Gannet, continuing the festival’s tradition of championing home-grown talent alongside national stars.
The festival wraps up on Sunday with a high-energy finale featuring Kenny Thomas, Sonique, and Marvin Humes 0 an eclectic line-up that promises something for everyone, blending soul, dance, and chart-topping pop.
Launched in 2005, Mouth of the Tyne has grown into one of the region’s most popular summer festivals. Beyond the headline acts, the event also includes a wide-ranging street entertainment programme, jazz stages, a family-friendly parade, and a variety of fringe events scattered across Tynemouth and Whitley Bay.
Festival organisers say this year’s edition will celebrate “two decades of community, creativity, and coast-side culture,” with many events remaining free to the public. Headline music acts are ticketed and expected to sell out.
That said, Mouth of the Tyne promises four unforgettable days, jam-packed with music, fun, and surprises for locals and visitors alike – whatever the weather (although we’re hoping for sunshine).
