Sasha Sky is a talented young singer-songwriter from Darlington. The soulful songstress, who is also a trained actress and dancer, released her debut single, ‘Doubts’, in 2021, with nine more singles following.
Sky explains: “I love R&B to its core, and I think that does reflect in the music I create, but I’m also inspired to write music through indie-pop and folk styles. I’m proud of the journey I’ve taken so far, but I’m ready to do so much more and go further now.”
So, without further ado, I’m about to listen to her tenth single, ‘Close Call’.
A soft acoustic intro gently nudges the track open, with Sky’s warm vocals sounding both soothing and strong. Musically, the track shimmers and shifts with ’90s folk-pop nostalgia. The lyrics are deeply personal, unabashedly powerful and undeniably poignant. But Sky is a survivor, and ‘Close Call’ finishes on a bittersweet, empowering note.
Overall, it’s a beautiful and truly brave piece of songwriting. Sasha, I’m rooting for you.
