Anarchy Brew Co have really made their mark on the world of real ales since their birth in 2012 and a year ago they moved to their current premises in Benfield Business Park, Newcastle.
Since the move, utilising the additional space they have, they opened the taproom where punters can enjoy gigs, brewer meets, DJ sets and private events surrounded by all the genuine kit of a real working brewery.
To celebrate the 1st anniversary of their move, Anarchy hosted a fantastic night of live music featuring free performances by North East punk legends Crashed Out and popular Newcastle punk-rock outfit, Death to Indie.
It’s no secret that I’m a big fan of Death To Indie. From their birth in 2011, this band have gone from strength to strength, performing around the North East and throughout the UK, gaining a loyal and enthusiastic following along the way. Their instantly accessible sound with influences from classic punk through to post-punk and punk-influenced rock has seen them perform alongside some real giants of the music genre including The Dead Kennedys, UK Subs and China Drum, amongst others.
Death To Indie took to the stage with their usual high energy and confident delivery. The wireless connections the guitarists use were totally taken advantage of as singer Jax took regular forays into the packed audience and lead guitarist Ali Graves utilised every part of the stage to full effect. They really know how to get a room going; and most recent release ‘Monkey See, Monkey Do’ was richly enjoyed by the bouncing crowd.
Headliners Crashed Out are another favourite of mine. Established in 1995 in Jarrow, the band quickly rose to prominence on the local scene with fans from various different camps on the punk, skinhead and rocker scenes. And they certainly didn’t disappoint tonight with a rip-roaring performance that showcased their gigging experience and defined the reason why punters travel far and wide to see them.
Playing a selection from across their copious back catalogue, they had the audience mesmerised and entertained with their stage presence and antics; at one point guitarist, Lee rode on top of singer Chris’ shoulders to rapturous applause.
Quite a perfect mix – a night of great beer and great music – I’m looking forward to seeing what’s in store from both the bands and this cracking venue in 2020.
