Comedian and author Rob Newman creates esoteric entertainment for boffins, eccentrics, deep thinkers, and silly sausages alike. He has written multiple books, including The Entirely Accurate Encyclopaedia of Evolution, which inspired its own BBC Radio 4 comedy series and might have even made the late Douglas Adams throw in the towel.
Rob’s stand-up shows are equally impressive. Fans of BBC comedy sketch show The Mary Whitehouse Experience will remember Rob alongside his then comedy partner David Baddiel, as well as Steve Punt and Hugh Dennis. This was followed in 1990 by the spin-off sketch show Newman and Baddiel in Pieces. Rob later went solo, writing and starring in the wildly imaginative 2007 BBC Three mockumentary The History of the World Backwards, which imagined an alternate universe where time moves forward as usual, but history runs in reverse.
Rob Newman’s arsenal of comedy includes hilariously silly impressionism and charmingly comedic musical numbers that the Monty Python chaps might wish they’d written themselves. What truly impresses, however, is his encyclopaedic knowledge of history, philosophy, and biology.
Expect these devices to be used to brilliant effect in Newman’s stand-up comedy show Where The Wild Things Were, which has been touring the UK since late 2025. Audiences can anticipate an evening of intelligent whimsy, clever insight, and plenty of laughter.
