Celebrate the life of Wilko Johnson, founder of Dr Feelgood and an all-round legend of British music, as the acclaimed show arrives at Gala Theatre in Durham this month.
You’ll be on your feet or dancing in your seat to riveting rock ’n’ roll throughout this musical biopic, which does a splendid job of capturing the courageous spirit Wilko carried throughout his life and career – particularly the ‘miracle’ he experienced in his later years.
In 2013, Wilko revealed that he had been diagnosed with late-stage cancer. Refusing treatment, he decided to spend his final year embarking on a farewell tour and recording a final album. But, as we now know, the ‘Feelgood rhythm-maker’ lived for almost another decade. It’s this remarkable part of Wilko’s story that the show brings to life.
It makes for a miraculous story, with an infectious performance and a talented cast bringing it to life, including Johnson Willis, who plays Wilko himself and has been highly praised for his lively portrayal.
Based on reviews from its previous run, the show is an absolute blast, making for an uplifting celebration of Wilko’s unique sound and personality.
Tickets are available for Tuesday 15th and Wednesday 16 September at 7.30pm, with a matinee showing at 2.30pm on the latter date.
Tickets, priced from £20.00 in advance, are available at galadurham.co.uk.
