This month, A Fleeting Presence, a captivating solo exhibition by Emerson Mayes, arrives at The Biscuit Factory in Newcastle. An award-winning contemporary painter and printmaker from Harrogate, North Yorkshire, Emerson is renowned for his atmospheric and expressive interpretations of the British landscape, celebrating its native flora and fauna through vibrant colour and movement.
A graduate of Leeds Beckett University with a BA (Hons) in Graphic Art, Emerson has created a striking collection of works that captures the energy and beauty of summer. His paintings evoke the sights, sounds and sensations of the season, from sunlit yellows and rich greens to deep, immersive blues. The exhibition features large-scale landscapes and seascapes that showcase the majesty and diversity of the natural world.
Wildlife also plays a central role in the collection. Drawing inspiration from fleeting encounters with animals in their natural habitats, Emerson captures moments that might otherwise pass unnoticed. Through expressive, gestural brushstrokes rather than meticulous detail, he conveys movement, character and vitality, bringing each subject vividly to life.
At its heart, A Fleeting Presence is a celebration of nature’s beauty and a reminder of its fragility. The exhibition encourages visitors to pause, observe and reconnect with the landscapes and wildlife that surround us.
The exhibition opens as part of The Biscuit Factory’s ‘Golden Hour’ Summer Party on Friday 10th July, offering the perfect opportunity to experience Emerson’s latest work.
