This summer, visitors to Newcastle will have the opportunity to step inside the world of one of history’s most celebrated artists as Beyond Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience arrives at the Utilita Arena for a limited run from Sunday 12th July to Sunday 9th August.
Far removed from the traditional gallery experience, this acclaimed exhibition transforms Vincent van Gogh’s iconic paintings into a vast digital spectacle. Rather than viewing framed works from a distance, audiences are invited to immerse themselves in a moving, multi-sensory environment where art, light and sound combine to create something entirely new.
Taking over more than 10,000 square feet of floor space within the arena, the installation uses state-of-the-art projection technology to surround visitors with vibrant imagery drawn from more than 300 of Van Gogh’s works. Among the masterpieces featured are The Starry Night, Sunflowers and Café Terrace at Night, all reimagined across towering walls and expansive floors in a breathtaking 360-degree presentation.
As visitors move through the exhibition, they are guided through key moments of Van Gogh’s artistic journey. Intricate brushstrokes, vivid colours and recognisable imagery flow seamlessly across the space, allowing audiences to experience the detail and emotion of the paintings on an entirely different scale. Accompanied by a specially curated soundtrack, the exhibition creates an atmosphere that is both reflective and awe-inspiring.

Alongside the main immersive gallery, visitors will exit through the dedicated Sunflower Alley installation, a striking tribute to one of Van Gogh’s most famous and enduring artistic subjects. The additional space provides a fitting conclusion to the experience and offers further opportunities for photographs and reflection.
The organisers have also placed a strong emphasis on accessibility and inclusivity. Dedicated SEND-friendly sessions, adult-only evening viewings and even weekend yoga experiences within the exhibition space are all designed to encourage wider participation and engagement. By blending art and technology in innovative ways, the event aims to appeal to audiences who may not typically visit traditional galleries.
Coinciding with the start of the summer holidays, the exhibition promises to be an ideal day out for families, art enthusiasts and curious newcomers alike.
Produced by Annerin Productions and Paquin Entertainment Group, Beyond Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience has already captivated millions of visitors worldwide, touring cities including Liverpool, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Miami, San Diego and Winnipeg. Described by The Guide Liverpool as “an unprecedented visual experience”, it represents another major cultural attraction for Newcastle’s growing arts scene.
Tickets, priced from £16.00 in advance, are available at utilitaarena.co.uk.
