This month, one of Middlesbrough’s newest and most invigorating art spaces will launch their brand new summer open call exhibition – and they’re asking for local artists to get involved.
The new exhibition, entitled The Pineapple Black Pick ‘n’ Mix, will be on display to the public on Friday 22nd August (with a special opening night taking place tonight) and will celebrate the region’s illustrious talent, with artists originating from or based in the North East of England invited to submit work across all mediums (please email the Pineapple Black team at pineappleblackgallery@gmail.com).
Alongside this, the art space will welcome the return of Middlesbrough’s pop up pioneers, Peg Powler. The curatorial crew will be taking over Pineapple Black’s ‘Changed Rooms’ for the duration of the show with their latest quirky collection, Peg Powler Art Collective’s Summer Sizzler.
To celebrate the launch of these two new exhibitions, Pineapple Black will host a special and free to attend preview evening on Friday 16th August which will include live music (acts TBC), performance, DJ and complimentary drinks.
For those unaware of the art venue, Pineapple Black is an artist-led initiative founded by Bobby Benjamin and Stephen Irving. Housed in the spacious former New Look store at Middlesbrough’s Hillstreet Centre, the focus of the project is both to attract international artists to Teesside and to celebrate the wealth of creative talent that exists here already.
All exhibitions at Pineapple Black are free to attend and are supported by Arts Council England, Creative Factory & East St. Arts.
