He’s a familiar face on panel shows such as 8 Out of 10 Cats, Would I Lie to You?, and Mock the Week, and he spent over a decade hosting Russell Howard’s Good News, offering his own hilarious – and often surreal – takes on global news stories and current affairs. You know who I mean now. Of course you do.
Observational humour and sharp social commentary are Russell’s weapons of choice. We can all observe the world around us, but some people manage to do it in a far funnier – and therefore better – way than others. Russell has a knack for finding absurdity in the smallest encounters and everyday frustrations, turning them into punchlines that feel both relatable and perfectly timed.
It’s not all daftness, though. Russell’s comedy is also unapologetically political. He frequently uses his platform as one of the UK’s most successful stand-ups to call out the general shoddiness of politicians, the hypocrisy of public figures, and even Dave from down the pub’s favourite “newspaper”, The Daily Mail.
His new stand-up show, Don’t Tell The Algorithm, is described as having “no phones, no distractions, just humans and jokes”. The tour has already sold out in numerous locations, and Russell brings the show to Newcastle’s O2 City Hall twice on Saturday 28th March, before returning for a further performance on 29th March.
