It’s an early set from violinist/vocalist Erica Nockalls as she opens for the Bunny’s. Intense and slightly spooky in places, Nockalls’ set is a suitably dark and gothic opening for a band known for their enjoyment of moody, atmospheric sounds.
Broken into two sets (they are in their mid-60s to be fair), Echo & The Bunnymen are on fine form tonight, with Mac’s voice soaring at the right moments and Will Sergeant’s guitar shredding absolutely sensational in places.
Choosing equally from their old and new catalogues, it’s the classics that stand out tonight, particularly ‘Villiers Terrace’, ‘The Killing Moon’ and ‘Ocean Rain’. A terrific audience sing-a-long to ‘Bring on the Dancing Horses’, and a coupled ‘Nothing Lasts Forever/Walk on the Wild Side’, both become highlights on a night where even Mac seems to smile in places.
25 or so years on from their reformation, the Bunny’s keep getting stronger and stronger.
