Fan Fest is set to return to Metrocentre this summer, bringing a galaxy of iconic characters, famous movie vehicles and immersive set displays to Gateshead for a third consecutive year.
The free, family-friendly event takes place this Saturday and Sunday, transforming Metrocentre into a series of themed fan zones celebrating some of the world’s most popular film, television and comic book franchises.
Visitors to Town Square will encounter characters from the Star Wars universe, including Jedi, Bounty Hunters, Imperials, The Mandalorian and Grogu, courtesy of the North East Legion volunteer group. Fans can also explore an impressive collection of replica vehicles, including a towering 5-metre AT-ST walker, a Snowspeeder and a Scout Trooper Speeder Bike. There will also be opportunities to pose for photos with Jabba the Hutt in his legendary Throne Room.
In Green Mall, Masters of the Universe enthusiasts can step into the world of Castle Grayskull, where He-Man faces off against his nemesis Skeletor. Elsewhere, visitors will find characters from Marvel, DC Comics, Transformers and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
Cosplayers are encouraged to attend in costume and take part in a competition judged by popular TikTok creator Chris Saunders, whose Screen and Beyond channel has more than 270,000 followers. The best costume on each day will win a £250 Metrocentre gift card.
Exhibition Square will host a pop-up marketplace featuring merchandise, collectables, and memorabilia, alongside a gaming and Gashapon zone run by Namco Funscape.
Metrocentre Marketing Manager Helen Atkinson said the event continues to grow each year, offering attractions for fans of all ages. As part of Metrocentre’s 40th anniversary celebrations, visitors can also expect a selection of special 1980s-themed displays and experiences.
