What happens when a town decides to look at the big problems facing the world and ask, “Right, so what can we actually do about it?”
World’s On Fire comes to ARC in Stockton from Thursday 15th until Saturday 17th October, with a daytime performance on Thursday and evening shows on Friday and Saturday.
Written and directed by award-winning disabled writer and director Vici Wreford-Sinnott, the show has been created with people from Stockton and the wider Tees Valley, bringing together professional actors, community performers, a newly formed choir and a movement chorus.
Rather than simply talking about climate change, climate anxiety and that increasingly familiar feeling that everything is a bit too much, World’s On Fire focuses on the people who are already trying to make a difference.
Real local stories are brought together with original music and movement, celebrating the things that make Stockton what it is – from the people who live here to the places they care about, and the connections that bring people together.
There’s plenty of big subject matter, then, but at its heart this is a show about friendship, resilience and the people who refuse to simply sit back and accept that things can’t change.
And perhaps that’s the most important thing of all: remembering that even when the problems seem enormous, there are still things we can do, especially when we do them together.
Tickets, priced on a Pay What You Decide Basis, are available at arconline.co.uk.
