Newcastle indie-pop three-piece Bear Park – made up of members Guy Robson, Shay Bagnall, and Adam Marshall – formed in 2019 and have been a breath of fresh air on the music scene ever since.
Named after a Durham village, the lads have worked tirelessly to hone their craft and carve out their distinctive sound.
A chance encounter led to them working with Gary Powell of The Libertines, signing with his label, 25 Hour Convenience Store, in 2023. Their 2024 album, supported by a vinyl release at Beyond Vinyl, was a dreamy mix of surf-inspired riffs and jaunty melodies.
Bear Park have a knack for creating genre-crossing tracks that hook listeners and keep them coming back for more, blending youthful energy with subtle nods to Britpop and even The Smiths.
They have earned their place on the gig circuit, securing coveted support slots with The Libertines, Andrew Cushin, and The Lightning Seeds. Their fast-growing fanbase has revelled in catching their sets at Hardwick Festival, Lindisfarne Festival, and Coastfest over the years – always delivered with charm and a dash of mischief. Regular features on BBC Introducing North East have helped bring their music to an even wider audience.
This is a band full of ambition and drive, with their sights firmly set on the biggest stages. Lead guitarist, Guy, recalls being inspired as a child watching Radiohead’s iconic Glastonbury sunset slot on television – a moment that sparked his dream of playing the festival himself one day.
This summer, Bear Park return with a banger of a lead single in ‘Teenage Bomb’, taken from their highly anticipated ‘Growl’ EP. Each track on the EP is a fiery cover, merging punk, dance, and pure rock.
‘Teenage Bomb’ was originally a hit for Scottish band The Needles and features a blistering guest appearance from the late Brian James of The Damned. The single showcases the band’s willingness to explore new musical territory before heading back into the studio to record their second album. Already a crowd-pleaser in their live sets, it promises an exciting new chapter for the trio.
A headline gig at The Globe in Newcastle went down a storm and served as a parting shot before they disappear into writing mode, crafting their next transitional record. The trajectory is theirs for the taking – and with Guy naming Sam Fender as the band’s dream collaboration, the thought of what they could produce together is tantalising.
