Hailing from South Shields, four-piece indie/alt-rock band Camel Island burst onto the North East music scene earlier this year with their debut single, ‘Autopilot’. Now, the lads are gearing up to take on their biggest show yet, live on the Alphabetti Theatre’s D’Addario Stage.
The endearing sound of Camel Island was born in lead vocalist William Gofton’s garage, with weekly practice sessions leading the band to find their feet and perfect their craft. The result is a fresh, gritty soundscape that takes inspiration from the Foo Fighters, with soaring melodies and intricate harmonies that hit similar sonic sweet spots as Radiohead.
The lads have taken on their fair share of local venues in recent months, going hand-in-hand with the string of singles they’ve released since February. Their music releases kicked off with the debut single ‘Autopilot’, an electrifying track reminiscent of the rock classic, ‘My Hero’. The song quickly put Camel Island on the map, with Nick Roberts giving the track a spin on his BBC Introducing show on BBC Newcastle.
Since February, the band has released three more songs, steadily building a catalogue demonstrating their sound. Little has got in the way of the boys making a name for themselves, with their releases continually being plugged by local radio stations and BBC Introducing while they carry on performing at locally-acclaimed venues such as Little Buildings.
The band’s latest release, ‘She’s The One’, shows off their uplifting side with a vibrant arrangement of guitar riffs, catchy bass lines and smooth vocal phrases that create a contemplative atmosphere. The track leaves you in anticipation till reaching the bridge, where lead singer William and lead guitarist/backing vocalist Dan Taylor unite to deliver warming harmonies that eventually explode into the chorus for a euphoric ending.
Each track is brought to life with the energetic drumming of Alex Lipanov and the robust basslines courtesy of Jay Morris, providing a quality rock spirit that enables the band’s vision to come to life and makes for great, memorable live performances.
With a few singles under their belt and a new wave of confidence, Camel Island are set to perform at The Alphabetti Theatre on Saturday 9th September. Be prepared for luscious guitar riffs, heavenly harmonies and reflective lyricism as the lads rock the roof of the D’Addario Stage.
Tickets, priced from £3.00 in advance, are available at alphabettitheatre.co.uk.
