Just a quick browse of Kay’s socials and a listen to her music is enough to brighten even the toughest days, leaving you feeling empowered, seeing the artist’s hard work continuously pay off as she makes her mark with inspiring tracks that leave a lasting impression. With a defiant year behind her, including the highs of embarking on her headline tour, Kay is amping herself up as she plays at the Alphabetti Theatre on Saturday 16th December.
The Alphabetti Theatre is a beloved venue in the North East, with some of the most exciting acts in the region taking to the stage. When speaking to Kay about what to expect from her headline shows, she told me:“Fireworks. Pyrotechnics. Acrobatics. I’m joking, but I’m also not joking. It’s going to be my best show yet. And if I were to describe it in one word I’d say it’s going to be a party, and like all of the best parties I’ve been to in my life, all my friends are going to be there.”
This party follows a triumphant year for Kay, with career highlights from performing at Fenders Unplugged to finishing her EP with the help of her favourite producers. These musical highs go hand in hand with Kay’s mental and physical health improvements, with the artist stating: “I’ve loved this year; it’s felt like coming out the other end of a tunnel for me personally.”
With a consistent rise in success here in the northern music scene, Kay is a champion for other Northern talent, with collaboration organically happening between her and a close-knit friendship group of creatives. While this wasn’t initially intentional, Kay soon spotted the disparity present in the industry regarding northern artists and creatives: “It has bolstered me to be as much of a champion for the talent that is here in abundance, especially those who are young and/or marginalised.”
Kay is succeeding in many areas of her career, with a recent record deal signing with Soul Kitchen and EMI North, further supporting her 2024 EP release and future creative endeavours. These headline shows are a great way to celebrate such accomplishments. And, what better way is there to see out 2023 than doing what Kay loves most: performing! With a tease of possibly even doing a Christmas song, her headline show at the Alphabetti Stage will be one for the books.
