Here at NE Volume Magazine, we’re passionate about bringing you the latest talent that North East England has to offer in the comedy, music and events space. A company that shares these values is none other than JS Promotions.
Set up nearly twenty years ago, it began as a part-time side project that was started by owner Jon Connor and later grew into a fully-fledged business.
This independent company is based in the North East and promotes small to medium-sized concerts. They have established their own yearly events too, including three annual 1-day punk festivals: North East Calling in Newcastle, Scotland Calling in Glasgow and North West Calling in Manchester.
This year’s North East Calling will be held on 19th October at Northumbria University in Newcastle and will feature performances from Sham 69, UK Subs, Subhumans, Random Hand, Bar Stool Preachers, The Defects, Gimp Fist, Riskee and the Ridicule, Knock Off, In Evil Hour and Guitar Gangsters. Quoted as being an event of a “mini rebellion” in previous years, it brings together new acts with old favourites to celebrate a love for punk music.
However, JS Promotions also represents other genres of music too, including booking a mixture of ska and indie acts over the years.
A particularly notable gig that they helped organise was none other than The Damned when they performed a 40th-anniversary show at The Royal Albert Hall in 2016. Their debut at the venue marked an important cornerstone in the venue’s history, which typically hosts more classical events.
Working with these sometimes considered fringe genres is what JS Promotions loves about their work, which translates into a respectful and considerate approach to the acts that they work with, the audiences that attend their concerts, and the venues that they work in. Where possible, they aim to work with independent venues, to give them the love and attention that they deserve as smaller businesses.
Above all, JS is passionate about promoting great bands and shining a spotlight on new exciting acts – all while doing so at affordable prices, so that audiences can enjoy more live music, and the bands can get the exposure that they crave.
