As hard-hitting rock outfit Coral Snake release their new single, ‘Web of Lies’ Lee Allcock caught up with the band to find out more.
For those of our readers yet to come across Coral Snake, tell them a little bit about you…
If you’re a fan of hard rock, that’s a great start. We are hugely inspired by the likes of modern titans Black Stone Cherry and Alter Bridge along with legends such as Guns n Roses and Aerosmith, to name a few. We pride ourselves on writing guitar-centric music complemented by hard-hitting drums and powerful vocals. We’re still relatively new on the scene and since our first single release in October 2020, we have released another three, supported the likes of Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sons, Kris Barras Band and graced stages at Lancaster Music Festival, Call of the Wild. We’re here to make an impact and we have a ton of ambition and big goals that we are determined to achieve. If all of the above sounds like your kind of thing, then we encourage you to join us on our journey by following our very active social media accounts which we have made very simple to find as all their handles are @coralsnakeband.
And you’ve just released your new single, ‘Web of Lies’. Tell me a bit about that including what listeners can expect sonically and lyrically…
‘Web of Lies’ is heavily inspired by the blues-rock riffing of classic-rock era bands such as Led Zeppelin and Aerosmith with a hard Slash-inspired edge. In its simplistic form, there is one guitar, drums, bass and vocals. The lyrics are centred on the compulsive lies the people we love and care about tell and the fact we can see right through them, while they continue to believe in what they are saying, oblivious to the hurt and distrust they are causing.
It was recorded in a different way to your previous singles, wasn’t it?
Our previous singles were all recorded by tracking each instrument individually one at a time, which is a very common way of recording modern music. With ‘Web of Lies’, we decided we wanted to try something different and thought it lent itself well to being played ‘live’ in the studio. This means we played it through together as if we were performing on stage, and that was the recorded sound. What you hear is about as close as you’ll get to hearing us playing live without coming to see us. It’s a much rawer, classic-rock sound and shows our versatility as a band.
And we hear this single marks the start of a frequent release cycle…
In this day and age, we always want more of something and if we don’t get it, we will easily move on to something else to get our fix. We think this is the same with music, particularly when starting out and trying to make a mark in the industry. Sure we could release an album, but then what? They’re expensive to make and market well for an independent band and it’s one bite of the pie when it’s released. Sure there’s gigging to support it, but when you’re an independent band and need to find money for the next album quickly, it can be tough. If anything, the last two years has taught us that things can change in a heartbeat. To combat this and ensure we remain present, whilst giving our fans new music, we will be releasing singles consistently over the next year at least, allowing each one to shine and give people an insight into who we are. Could there be more than just the singles? Of course, there could, but you’ll have to keep an eye on our socials for that news.
You can listen to ‘Web of Lies’ now on all major streaming platforms.
