Songs From Northern Britain is back for another instalment at Georgian Theatre, The Green Room and Georgian Bar in Stockton on Saturday 21st May, with a line-up filled with plenty of fantastic emerging artists both local and from across the border.
Headlined by Hamish Hawk, the micro-day festival has taken place every year, pandemic permitting, since 2017, and has showcased many familiar names such as Trunky Juno, Leopard Rays, Komparrison and Mt. Misery, to name but a few. This intergenerational day out is also a chance to bring some of Scotland’s finest talents down to the North East and broaden anyone’s tastes who might be into seeing a band before the height of their fame.
The whole day is headlined by Hamish Hawk, an Edinburgh singer-songwriter with a rich vocal range and beautifully crafted lyrics full of emotion, characters and historical and geographical references. His latest album tells the stories and character profiles of many famous people such as Paul the Apostle, architect Christopher Wren, and the Mauritian Badminton Doubles Champions of 1973. His songs are almost fairy-tale-like in nature, with an impressive vocabulary and soft bittersweet melodies that somewhat mirror stars like Jarvis Cocker and Leonard Cohen.
Other artists on the bill include Our Man in the Field, whose Americana folk music may bring a tear to your eye and a warmth to your heart; DEADLETTER and Onlooker, whose post-punk and anarchic garage rock riffs are set to start a riot on the dancefloor; Katie Doherty, who has a beautifully sweet voice and twinkly instrumentals to back her as she takes on a healing role with her fairy princess persona; Connor Fyfe, who is likely set to be the youngest on the bill for this year at 14-years-old, and many more names to be announced on the lead up to the day.
Songs From Northern Britain will be a fantastic day out for underrated local and across the borders music, where guests may find their next favourite band to sneak on the aux.
So head on down to The Georgian Theatre, The Green Room and Georgian Bar in Stockton on Saturday 21st May and support these talented upcoming, emerging artists.
