I don’t think there are many people in rock ’n’ roll who can claim to have lived a life quite like Alice Cooper. From pioneering shock-rock and becoming one of the most recognisable characters in music to surviving decades of excess, reinvention and rock ’n’ roll mayhem, he’s certainly got one hell of a story to tell.
Now, fans have the chance to hear that story directly from the horse’s mouth, as it were, as Alice Cooper brings his Devil on My Shoulder Book Tour to Stockton Globe on Saturday 17th October.
This isn’t a traditional concert, but an evening of stories, memories and a look behind the scenes of one of rock’s most extraordinary careers. Alice will be discussing his new autobiography, Devil on My Shoulder, which lifts the lid on the man behind the make-up and the character that helped redefine what a rock show could be.
And there certainly won’t be a shortage of stories to tell. Over more than six decades in the spotlight, Alice has crossed paths with some of the biggest names in music and popular culture, from Frank Sinatra and John Lennon to Salvador Dalí, Vincent Price and Bob Hope. Meanwhile, his career has taken in everything from infamous stage theatrics and legendary gigs to addiction, recovery and reinvention.
He’s also seen the music industry change almost beyond recognition during that time, while remaining a hugely influential figure himself. From the early days of the Alice Cooper Group to his successful solo career, there are plenty of chapters to get through, and this should offer fans the chance to hear some of them in his own words.
And if having Alice Cooper talking about his life wasn’t enough, he’ll be joined by none other than Arthur Brown as special guest host. The God of Hellfire and the Godfather of Shock Rock might sound like a slightly terrifying double act, but given their shared love of theatricality and spectacle, it’s hard to think of a more fitting pairing.
There will also be an audience Q&A, giving fans the chance to put their own questions to Alice and perhaps uncover a few more stories that didn’t make it into the book.
With a copy of Devil on My Shoulder included with every ticket, this is a pretty special opportunity for Alice Cooper fans – offering the chance to hear the stories behind the songs, the stage persona and the man himself, from the man who has lived it all.
Tickets, priced from £60.84 in advance, are available at stocktonglobe.co.uk.
