Miles Kane will play Newcastle’s NX as part of a 12-date UK tour following the release of his career-defining album, ‘One Man Band’.
Born in Birkenhead, Kane played saxophone as a child. Growing up, his cousins, James and Ian Shelly, who went on to form The Coral, had a defining effect on his musical tastes.
Kane joined The Little Flames as a guitarist in 2004 at the age of 18. After touring with The Coral, The Zutons, The Dead 60’s and Arctic Monkeys, the band split in 2007 before releasing their debut album which was put back to 2016.
Kane formed The Rascals with childhood friends Greg Mighall and Joe Edwards after The Little Flames disbanded and took over main songwriting duties and vocals. They released their debut EP just seven months after the band’s formation. Although it didn’t receive chart success, the band were championed by the NME. Following a successful tour with Arctic Monkeys, their debut album was released the following year.
Whilst touring with Arctic Monkeys, Kane and frontman Alex Turner began to experiment backstage and formed supergroup, The Last Shadow Puppets, with their debut album going straight to number 1 in the UK Album Charts. Following success in the UK Singles Charts too, they played a secret Glastonbury set and won the Mojo Breakthrough Award.
Kane’s solo career began in 2009. He has released five studio albums to date and has supported The Courteeners, Beady Eye and Liam Gallagher. Kane’s latest release is probably his most grown-up to date. Relocating to London after spending time in LA in 2015 was a turning point. His new material focuses on friendship, feelings, his rollercoaster career and finally finding his feet in the music business.
Kane has an undeniable stage presence that feeds off the energy of the audience. Expect old favourites and new tracks, loud guitars and his signature croon.
Whilst Kane’s performance often lends a nod to Alex Turner at times, he has nailed the art of being a performer in his own right.
Support on the evening comes from Wrexham indie band, The Royston Club.
Tickets, priced at £30.00 in advance, are available from nxnewcastle.com.
