Newcastle’s vibrant music scene has gained a new heartbeat with the official opening of Newgate Social, a live music bar in the city’s heart. The venue made a splash on Friday 30th August with a memorable launch headlined by local star Andrew Cushin, who delivered a secret set that thrilled fans.
Cushin, celebrated for his international tours and connection with Britpop icon Noel Gallagher, returned to Newcastle to mark the venue’s debut. His performance, in support of his acclaimed album ‘Waiting for the Rain’, underscored Newgate Social’s potential as a major player in the live music scene.
Cushin praised venues like Newgate Social, stating: “Grassroots venues are the birthplace of great music. Without these intimate spaces, artists like myself would struggle to succeed. They are vital to the music industry.”
Located near the historic Mayfair ballroom, Newgate Social is set to become a cultural cornerstone in Newcastle. Venue Manager Cheryl Flowers expressed excitement about the launch: “The success of our opening night was phenomenal. Featuring support acts Keiran Bowe and Annabel Pattinson, we set the stage perfectly for Andrew Cushin. Newgate Social is a haven for music lovers and will host an eclectic mix of genres, showcasing both emerging talent and established artists.”
Looking ahead, Newgate Social will focus on supporting local talent, offering a platform for grassroots artists to develop and reach new audiences. Upcoming events include performances by B-Hive on Friday 13th September, Dope Sick Fly on Friday 20th September, and The National Anthems on Friday 27th September.
