Creative young Teessider Jacob Fletcher began as a solo artist in late 2025 with the percussive support of session drummer David Miller. Eventually, bassist Jake Sibley and lead guitarist Ollie Coulter joined the line-up, and the Fletcher Band was born. Their latest release, ‘Leave a Scar’, is a bittersweet song of heartbreak and is excellently crafted and composed. Jacob’s voice commands the track, sounding both powerful and natural. If there’s one thing I admire in a vocalist, it’s an honest, unaffected regional accent, so that box is well and truly ticked.
There are beautifully bendy guitar hooks throughout, at times almost sitar-like in tone. The drums and bass provide a steady grounding heartbeat beneath the arrangement. The song’s climax delivers a rawness tinged with hope and determination, with layered harmonies and all instruments pushed to the edge of their intensity.
Collectively, the auditory experience of ‘Leave a Scar’ evokes faded Super 8 images of hazy evening love affairs, followed by jaded, sunburnt, hungover mornings after. It’s a golden ray of an indie-rock song.
