Grave Faces’ second single, ‘My Mind Fell Out’, continues in the vein of their first with its no-nonsense, anthemic punk-rock, the sort of which many of us heard week-in, week-out back when vocalist Phil Saunders was heading up the weekly rock night, Sumo.
With all five members having a background in the local punk scene from the days of Open Season gigs, the DIY ethos has clearly remained important to them – and this sounds very much like a product of that hugely important scene.
For many of us, the soundtrack to our formative years will have in part been made up of the Tony Hawk’s games, and it’s easy to imagine pulling off a Christ Air with this track blaring in the background.
Recalling bands like Strike Anywhere and Kid Dynamite with some seriously huge hooks and a driving sense of melody, Grave Faces aren’t trying to reinvent the wheel, but they’ve produced a ludicrously catchy slab of shout-along punk-rock which is begging to be the soundtrack to the summer. This is Warped Tour music at its finest.
You can listen to the release now on all major streaming platforms.
