With an EP set for release in November, Mr Bigfoot’s first single in preparation for this release is ’Madman’s Window’. In so doing, the Teesside four-piece have unleashed a track of pure emotion and angst, something which harks back to that inner teenager within.
This track exemplifies the band’s robust musicianship and impeccable production quality, setting a high bar for their future releases.
‘Madman’s Window’ depicts the Irish legend of the rock formation by the same name. A man lost his wife as the cliffs collapsed beneath them and spent the rest of his days staring out from the rocks all day every day.
The song opens with a gritty riff that immediately grabs your attention, showcasing the band’s prowess in crafting compelling melodies. The production is crisp and clear, allowing each instrument to breathe and shine through without overpowering the others. The balance in the mix is impressive, ensuring that the punchy basslines and dynamic drum patterns complement the soaring guitar solos and powerful vocals.
I’m immediately thrown back to 1997 and listening to the Manic Street Preachers’ ‘Motorcycle Emptiness’ and ‘Everything Must Go’ for the first time (I was late to that party). I’ve had those tracks on repeat for several decades, and I can easily see myself doing the same with this one.
Progressing with a captivating intensity and weaving through various musical landscapes that keep the listener engaged, this song is making an impact.
Vocalist Kie Davies (who wrote the song after an inspirational visit to the Irish site) delivers a performance that is both raw and emotive, perfectly conveying the song’s themes of madness and introspection. The backing riffs and harmonies add to that depth of richness, enhancing the overall texture.
One of the standout elements here is the exceptional musicianship displayed by each band member. The guitar work is particularly noteworthy, with intricate solos that demonstrate both technical skill and artistic flair. The rhythm section provides a solid foundation, driving the song forward with relentless energy and precision. It’s clear that the band have approached this with DIY in mind, looking to take real ownership and responsibility.
The forthcoming EP covers relevant themes of the Tory era, in particular the struggle many 20-somethings are facing (e.g. can’t buy a house, the world is on fire, everyone hates everyone and we’re losing our minds watching it happen).
The single was recorded and produced by Kie Davies and mixed by Steven Bardgett (Mouses).
In addition to their impressive studio work, Mr Bigfoot are gearing up for a series of live performances across the region, which are highly anticipated by their growing fanbase. The band will be hitting the stage at several key venues, including a notable performance at Trillians in Newcastle. These live dates promise to be an exciting opportunity for fans to experience the band’s electrifying stage presence and hear new material from the upcoming EP.
After the release of ‘Madman’s Window’, the band will move on to their EP release show at The Georgian Theatre in Stockton on November 16th.
‘Madman’s Window’ is available to stream from the 16th August.
